Salem new car dealers unite to donate nearly $50,000 for wildfire relief

Alex Casebeer can’t remember the last time — if ever — all of Salem’s new car dealers united for one cause.

VIDEO: Marion County Senior Deputies describe responding to Beachie Creek Fire

But on Friday afternoon, it happened.

Nine new car dealers pitched in to donate nearly $50,000 to the United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley in support of individuals and families impacted by the wildfires.

Casebeer, of the Capitol Auto Group, said collaboration like this is rare.

“We’re all fighting for the same customers, we’re all trying to sell as many cars as we can, and we’re all interested in our own philanthropic efforts. We typically don’t cross paths,” Casebeer said. “I can’t really think of a time when everybody let down their guard and said, ‘This is

Transformed Transportation to Boost Growth

Ghana has been experiencing steady economic development, but GDP growth has not been supported with enough infrastructure to boost welfare sustainably in the long term. One of the sectors requiring urgent improvement is transport.

The road network comprises over 78,000 kilometers, but only 49% of it is maintained or rehabilitated. Up to 60% of the 1300-kilometer rail network is not used regularly due to lack of maintenance. This absence of necessary infrastructure limits commerce and exports, and slows down Ghana’s economic growth prospects and even tourism, given that many of the major attractions are located in rural areas and difficult to reach due to the poor overall state of the roads.

Accra’s rapid demographic growth also creates transportation issues through an increased number of vehicles and congestion. As the city spreads, people experience longer commutes, which creates time costs and has an adverse impact on the environment. But with so

* Shares up 10%, some analysts say momentum may be turning (Adds shares, analyst comment, more details on results)

Sept 3 (Reuters) – Engineering business owner Melrose Industries said on Thursday there were signs of a pick-up in some of its markets, excluding aerospace, after the coronavirus crisis slashed its first-half profit by 90% and prompted job cuts.

Shares of the FTSE 100 company gained 10% by 0744 GMT as investors reckoned the worst may be over after the owner of UK-based car and aerospace parts maker GKN said its automotive and key Nortek Air Management businesses were trading at the higher end of expectations over the summer months.

The stock has lost around half of its value this year.

Melrose has had to restructure its pandemic-hit GKN

Why these blue-wheeled bikes are taking Europe by storm

The micromobility boom that’s flooded cities around the world with bike-share systems, e-bikes, and scooters has so far primarily offered mobility on demand. Step out of a downtown building or subway station, and an array of branded mobility options are just an app’s touch away. Go from point A to point B and leave the bike or scooter there for the next user to ride.

One new service that’s spreading across European cities adds a little more permanence to the micromobility concept. Instead of renting a bike by the ride, it’s more like a lease that can last a month or more.

The Netherlands-based company behind this concept is called Swapfiets, and it’s now operating in six countries in Europe. The fiets in its name is the Dutch word for bicycle, but it’s the swap that’s the main pitch to potential riders. Included in its monthly fee (roughly
