Rivian Faces Ban From Michigan Car Dealers in Direct-Sales Fight

(Bloomberg) — Michigan auto dealers are trying to block startup electric carmakers including Rivian Automotive Inc. and Lucid Motors Inc. from following in Tesla Inc.’s footsteps by selling vehicles directly to consumers and servicing them in the state.

A bill introduced in the Michigan legislature last week would block any manufacturer other than Tesla from selling cars to customers without a dealer as an intermediary and from owning and operating service and repair facilities. It could come up for a vote as soon as Tuesday, according to a Rivian official.

N.J. man killed while standing outside of car stopped on Parkway shoulder

A 60-year-old Monmouth County man was struck and killed Friday night as he stood outside a car stopped on the shoulder of Garden State Parkway in Holmdel, authorities said.

John Carroll of Belmar was hit shortly before 10 p.m. in the southbound local lanes near milepost 115.9, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers said Carroll was standing outside the car, which was stopped and unoccupied on the right shoulder.

Another vehicle entered the right shoulder and struck Carroll and the parked car, according to Trooper Charles Marchan.

“As a result of the accident Carroll suffered fatal injuries,” Marchan said. It was not immediately clear if the car that was hit belonged to Carroll or if he had been driving the vehicle before the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 41-year-old man from Woodbridge Township in Middlesex County, was not hurt.

No charges were filed as of Saturday

    Vacaville, CA (KOVR) — A Vacaville home known for its incredible antique collections is nothing but ashes after flames took down an entire neighborhood.

More than a dozen classic cars, dolls and furniture from the early 1900s are all gone. All that’s left standing of Ken and Marci Albers’ home on Estate Drive is the chimney.

“Ken’s the one who woke up and looked out the window and saw the flames,” Marci said.

The flames didn’t even spare the garages – yes, they had more than one to store those classic cars.

“1956 Chevy Nomad – it was a project I was working on, 1957 Chevy Coop that I drove quite often,” Ken said.

Ken can list every detail – big or small – of each one. He and his wife were collectors, cherishing every prized possession.

Father of NFL player James White killed in car crash, mother in critical condition

New England Patriots running back James White was on the minds of teammates and fans on Sunday night when he did not play in the game after learning his father died in a car crash in Florida earlier in the day.

White was inactive for New England’s 35-30 loss to the Seattle Seahawks following a crash in Broward County at 1 p.m. on Sunday that claimed the life of his father, Miami-Dade police captain Tyrone White, and put two others in the hospital, according to NBC 6 in Florida.
