Man cited for DWI after wrecking vehicle in a single-car crash | Crime

A Greenville man was cited for driving while impaired after wrecking his vehicle in a single-car crash on Sept. 1, according to court and law enforcement reports.

The incident took place on Old River Road at 11:38 p.m., according to the State Highway Patrol.

Nicholas Anthony Palazzo, 24, of 630 Cotanche Street Apt. 463, Greenville, ran off the road right, struck a ditch, a brick post and a telephone pole. The vehicle came to rest off the road near the area of impact. His vehicle sustained $8,000 in damages and was not drivable.

He was unsteady on his feet and was staggering and swaying, had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and heavy, red, glassy eyes and a dazed look. His blood test results were not available.

Four other people also were charged with driving while impaired, according to records available between Aug. 31-Sept. 7.

In other cases court documents indicate:

  • Matthew Gregory Hudson, 36, of 157 East Washington Street, Bethel, was stopped at 6:08 p.m. on Aug. 31 on Greenville Boulevard near Red Banks Road by the Greenville Police Department. He passed out behind the wheel, was difficult to rouse, had slurred speech, was unstable on his feet and had droopy eyes. He was not suspected to be under the influence of alcohol but had admitted to possibly consuming depressants. His blood results were not available. He previously received a DWI in 2015.
  • Nevada Leavern Joyner, 34, of 4223A Washington Street, Ayden, was stopped at 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 4 on N.C. 11 near Reedy Branch Road by the Winterville Police Department. She was slow to pull over, had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath, glassy, bloodshot eyes, was unsteady on her feet and admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana. Her blood alcohol level was 0.17.
  • Michael Curtis White, 30, of 2460 Red Forbes Road, Winterville, was stopped at 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 31 on N.C. 11 near Littlefield Road by the Ayden Police Department. He was unconscious behind the wheel and admitted to drinking and using drugs prior to driving. His blood test results were not available. He previously received a DWI in May.
  • Alonzo Wright, 37, of 3405 Sterling Court Apt. CC6, Greenville, was stopped at 10:12 p.m. on Sept. 5 on Whitley Drive by the Winterville Police Department. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, red, glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet. His blood alcohol level was 0.12.
