Sierra Club San Diego is offering a Conservation Community Organizer Internship.

This is a temporary paid ($15 @ hour – 15 hours a week) internship position (16 weeks from start) in the environmental and social justice organizing field for an individual who is currently pursuing or already graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. High-school diploma or GED required.

Under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor and mentor, the selected candidate conducts research, participates in project assignments and programs; assists in carrying out campaign strategies that can build power for our movement, and interacts with volunteers, citizens, other organizations and other club staff.  Serves as a Community Organizer Intern for north inland San Diego county and the cities of Escondido, San Marcos, and Vista with a focus on ….more here and application.

Transportation contributes approximately one-third of all U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, and must be a prime target for major greenhouse gas reductions.

Our Program

Global warming emissions from the transportation sector can be reduced by increasing the production and use of clean, highly efficient vehicles powered by sustainable low carbon fuels and electricity, and by better designing communities to include accessible and convenient alternatives to driving. The Sierra Club is working to achieve three primary outcomes in this initiative:

  1. Clean and efficient vehicles: A fleet-wide new vehicle fuel economy average of at least 60 mpg by 2025 through a combination of state and federal standards and a shift to vehicle electrification.
  2. Lower-carbon fuels: Reduce the carbon content of the fuels used for transportation by 15% below the 2005 level by 2030.
  3. A 21st-Century Transportation System: Reducing vehicle miles traveled per person by increasing public

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Late yesterday, the EPA released its annual automotive trends report, which found that only three out of 14 major automakers – Honda, Subaru and Mazda – met the clean car standards from 2013 to 2018 without relying on compliance loopholes.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Politico reported that EPA’s Science Advisory Board issued its final report criticizing the agency’s rollback of the clean car standards for using “faulty science” and that the current standards “might provide a better outcome for society than the proposed revision.” The proposed final rule to roll back Obama-era clean car standards has been under review by the White House’s Office of Management and Budget since January.
