BREMERTON — Police say a driver led officers on a chase through Bremerton early Sunday morning despite the suspect having lost both passenger-side tires.
A Bremerton police sergeant said in court documents that he tried to stop the man, 28, for driving the wrong way down Fifth Street. The driver refused to pull over, and as the sergeant followed with his lights and sirens on, the driver apparently struck a curb that flattened both passenger-side tires. For almost another four miles, at speeds between 50 and 65 mph, the car “lost all the rubber off both passenger-side tires and was running on the rims,” the sergeant said.
When they got to Old Belfair Highway, the sergeant used a Pursuit Intervention Technique, or PIT maneuver, and spun the car around. The driver was arrested and a blood sample taken from him. He was suspected of being high on drugs.
The man was taken to the Kitsap County Jail.
