Man accused of stealing OPSO vehicle, attempting to run over deputies

A Branch man is facing multiple attempted murder of a police officer charges after he allegedly tried to run over deputies Sunday morning

According to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a burglary in the 300 block of Fortune Drive at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday. 

Matthew Beiber, age 32, was located at the scene and detained as a possible suspect.

During the investigation, Beiber took an OPSO vehicle and left the location.

According to OPSO, deputies pursued Beiber on Keystone Road, and the suspect reportedly rammed two OPSO patrol units before continuing north, turning around, and attempting to run over the deputies whose units he rammed.

Beiber continued to run away from deputies, OPSO reports, but he eventually crashed in Morehouse Parish and was apprehended. 

He was booked into Ouachita Correctional center on three counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and one count of theft of a motor vehicle. 

Bail was set at $1,507,500.
