Officers detained a driver after pedestrian died Monday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in a south Sacramento restaurant parking lot, police said.

The incident was reported about 3:30 p.m in the parking lot of Chando’s Tacos in the 5600 block of Power Inn Road, near Fruitridge Road. The restaurant closed for the rest of the day as police investigated what was then believed to be an argument that led to the incident, according to announcement from the Chando’s Tacos on Facebook.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian in the parking lot. The officers arrived and found a man in his 30s who suffered life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the Sacramento Police Department.

Firefighters arrived shortly after and pronounced the man dead. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release his name once his family has been properly notified.

Officials said the driver involved was still in the parking lot when police arrived. Officers detained the driver, but there was no indication Monday night whether the driver had been arrested. Police did not release the driver’s name.

Detectives and crime scene investigators had been called to take over the investigation. They will be canvassing the area for witnesses, security camera video and evidence throughout the night.

The circumstances that led to the vehicle hitting the pedestrian were still under investigation, police said. Detectives did not believe there were any other suspects involved.
