A major Wigan road has been closed after a crash that has left a man seriously hurt.

Warrington Road (A573) in Ince is shut off to traffic following the collision which occurred at around 4.40pm today (Sunday). The vehicle involved is believed to be an off road bike.

A GMP spokesman said: “Police were called at 16.39 hours today (Saturday 29 August 2020) to reports of a road traffic accident on Warrington Road, Ince, Wigan.

“A male was seriously injured and has been taken to hospital.

“The investigation is ongoing.

“Anyone with any information should call 101 quoting incident number 2167 of 30/08/2020. Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

In a tweet, a spokesman for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has warned drivers of the closure and advised people to find alternative routes.

The road is shut from Firtree Drive to Moss Lane and cars are moving slowly through the area.

TfGM said: “A573 Warrington Road, Ince, is closed in both directions from the junction of Moss Lane down to Firtree Drive due to an RTC.

“Allow extra time for your journey.”

Emergency services are currently at the scene.
