A motorcycle driver was seriously injured during a collision with an on-duty Windsor police officer on a bicycle near the city’s downtown early Wednesday morning.
The collision occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of Wyandotte Street East and McDougall Street.
The police officer and the driver of the motorcycle were transported to hospital for medical assessment of injuries, Windsor police said in a news release on Wednesday.
Officers secured the scene and notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU). The SIU has invoked its mandate and is investigating the collision.
The roadway between Goyeau Street and Glengarry Avenue remains closed for investigation.
A news release from SIU on Wednesday said three investigators, two forensic investigators, and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about the investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The SIU is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to the incident to upload it through the SIU website .
