PARAÑAQUE CITY, July 30 (PIA) – Some 260 traffic officers from the Taguig Traffic Management Office received bicycles from the City Government under the city’s ‘Bike Immersion Program’.

According to Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano who led the turnover of the bicycles on Wednesday, July 29, the city government will form a team of bike patrollers that will be tasked to help in maintaining smooth flow of vehicular traffic in the city.

During the simple turnover ceremony, Cayetano cited the importance of bikes as an alternative mode of transportation, saying that it helps one get to destination while having a good exercise at the same time.

The mayor added, that the additional benefit of using bicycle is it does not emit any pollutants thereby, it promotes practices that are good for the environment.

He also said using a bike is economical because one does not have to fuel it with gasoline, thus no added cost for the biker.

Cayetano said, the city government is currently implementing the Taguig City Bike Immersion Program as part of the Active Transport Plan which aims to promote the use of various non-motorized modes of transportation for a healthy and sustainable living as well as compensate for the limited mode of transportation under the ‘new normal’.

Aside from the members of the TMO, the city has been distributing bikes to barangay health workers as an alternative mode of transport.

He also mentioned the “Bike-Friendly Taguig Ordinance”, passed on June 1 as a part of the city’s campaign to make biking an important step towards a healthy living. (PIO Taguig/PIA-NCR)
