Noida: A couple returning from work on a bike died after a speeding WagonR hit them from behind near the City Centre underpass late on Sunday night.
The accident took place around 10.30pm. Balkishan (44) and his wife Leelavati (40) worked in the same nursery in the city and were returning to their rented accommodation when the accident took place. Both were not wearing helmets.
Police said they couple were originally from Bulandshahr’s Jahangirabad area. Both of them were flung in the air and suffered critical injuries to the head after the WagonR (DL5CF4256) crashed into their bike.
“Both of them suffered critical injuries. A passerby had made a call to the police on the Dial 100 service. When a patrolling team rushed to the accident spot, both the victims were lying on the road, oozing blood,” said a police officer.
The police team rushed the couple to the District Hospital in Sector 30. Both were declared dead on arrival. The cops said while Balkishan died on the spot, Leelavati passed away on way to the hospital.
While the bike was completely damaged, the WagonR, too, suffered damages to its bonnet.
The driver of the car fled after the accident. Till late on Monday, the police were yet to make any arrests.
A video uploaded on social media soon after the accident showed the WagonR parked at the side of the underpass and the mangled remains of the bike ahead of it. The bleeding man can also be seen in the clip lying next to the bike.
An FIR has been registered against the driver of the WagonR under sections 304A (death due to negligence), 279 (rash driving) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
