Two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon at Stuart kills 1, injures 1


Here are tips on what to do if you are involved in a traffic crash, according to Port St. Lucie police.


A 65-year-old Stuart man was killed and a 25-year-old woman from Palm Beach Gardens was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Southeast Ault Avenue and Southeast Cove Road south of Stuart.

Names of the two had not been released by the Florida Highway Patrol late Sunday night.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.The injured woman was flown by helicopter to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce, said Bethany Alex, spokesperson for Martin County Fire Rescue.

According to the FHP, the man was driving an SUV west on Cove Road, made an improper lane change and traveled into the path of the woman’s pickup.

The two vehicles collided head-on, the FHP report stated. The SUV came to rest between the eastbound and westbound lanes; the pickup overturned onto grass along the road’s northern shoulder and came to rest on its roof.

The investigation is ongoing, said Lt. Yanko Reyes, an FHP spokesperson, no more information was available Sunday night.
